Cardboard Google Street View Is As Real As Our Own Reality

We have all seen or used the Google Street View feature. It’s one of those insanely creative ways of reinventing the map, and the depth of it is increasingly impressive. It was recently announced that Google managed to shrink their street view capturing device from a car sized gadget to a backpack sized mobile instrument. This will enable them to capture street views even on the narrowest streets. I believe that is particularly good for cities like Stockholm for example, which has numerous streets that you can hardly fit a person through. It is going to be quite interesting to see what Google will come up with next after they have completed their task of capturing street views this particular way.

If you ever feel like the reality of the Google Street View images are kind of off then I strongly suggest you have a peek at these insanely impressive street view creations made out of cardboard that artist Evol put together. At first glance, you will not be able to tell they are made out of cardboard, at least I couldn’t. The satellite dishes, cables and street lights are so realistically created that even the human eye can’t tell they are fake even if you put a magnifying glass to them.

With ultra real creations like these, I keep wondering why we even have millions of dollars worth of equipment running the streets to capture what one guy can create out of cardboard. I guess it would take about a billion years to create the entire world this way, but hey, it’s an alternative nonetheless, right? I could spend hours looking at this stuff since I am still finding new details that I just can’t believe are rendered on there. These pictures are not real photographs, they are completely created out of cardboard and paint. These has to be the ultimate achievement for an artist looking to create photorealistic art.
