Continue Your Epic Battles In Mario And Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games

The event of the year is getting ever closer and to help celebrate this year’s Olympic fever, gamers are eagerly anticipating the release of the fifth installment in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics series called Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which will be released on both WiiU and Nintendo 3Ds, again sees 40 of our favorite Nintendo and Sega superstars (20 from each roster) compete against each other in iconic Olympic events. Expect to see favorite characters Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario and Yoshi on Mario’s team and Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Dr Eggman and Metal Sonic on Sonic’s side.

Of course, the main novelty in these Sega/Nintendo crossover games is getting to see two of our favorite retro stars – Mario and Sonic – sharing the same screen. The first game in the series, released in 2007 to coincide with the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, was a roaring success but nearly a decade later what can we expect from the latest installment?

Promising game footage and positive reviews are already reaching the internet from Japan where the game has just been released. The footage itself shows bright, fun graphics with characters competing in events such as soccer, boxing, BMX, 100m dash, 110m hurdles, golf and equestrian – much like the events that were included in Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Similarly to the London version, Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will have an adventure mode that will have separate Mario and Sonic endings depending on which character you pick.

But perhaps the greatest attribute of this game is its potential as a superb social gaming experience. Just like the epic rivalry between Mario and Sonic themselves, this game begs for your own competitive Olympic party with friends. Even better, with all the statistics being released on the greatest Olympic stars of all time, you can actually compete against these Olympic records. Just imagine beating Usain Bolt, the fastest man on Earth’s, 9.63 100m record or Sergey Litvinov’s 84.80m Hammer Throw record in the comfort of your own home!

In fact, there’s even a website dedicated to Wii records in Olympic gaming where people have indeed broken records set by Olympic stars including one gamer who has finished the 100m sprint in just 8.24 seconds – completely annihilating Bolt’s best.

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be released on the 3DS in America on March 18th, the WiiU version will be released later in the year.
