It seems so obvious. We’ve written about many hangover solutions over the years, but doesn’t it make more sense to go straight to the source? Instead of learning how to treat a hangover the best way, doesn’t it make more sense to change the way beer is brewed so that it doesn’t cause a hangover in the first place? It makes sense to me, and someday soon we might all have the chance to drink this anti-hangover beer that supposedly tastes like regular beer.
As you might have guessed, this anti-hangover beer was created by scientists in a lab. It’s quite simple really. One of the main causes of a hangover is dehydration. By stuffing the beer full of electrolytes (like what you’d find in sports drinks), you will be able to wake up the next morning feeling refreshed instead of like your head is about to explode.
Associate Professor Ben Desbrow and his team of researchers at the Griffith Health Institute in Australia basically changed the ingredients in four types of beer for their study. They discovered that adding the electrolytes didn’t modify the taste of the beer at all. Although all this sounds wonderful, there is a downside to this anti-hangover beer. That is, in order to make it, the alcohol content has to be reduced. It might be easier to just drink non-alcoholic beer.
It seems like a no-brainer to add electrolytes to beer. I don’t know why someone hasn’t thought of that until now. Another way to avoid a hangover is to drink a glass of water between each beer or alcoholic drink. Or, I suppose the most obvious way to avoid a hangover is to just drink less in the first place. Sometimes the most obvious way isn’t the most fun way though, right?
