How To: Grow A Rainbow Colored Rose

I have never seen one of these rainbow colored roses in person; however, I’ve always thought they were fake, which is not appealing to me.

However, today I discovered that a rainbow rose can actually be grown. Now… that, on the other hand, is very cool! The process, discovered by Peter Van de Werken, is surprisingly geeky.

This is fascinating. According to Pickchur, “As the petals get their nourishment through the stem, the idea is to split the stem into several channels and dip each one in a different colored water. This way all the colors will be drawn by the stem into the petals and the resultant rose will have all the colors in it.”

It apparently took Mr. Van de Werken and his colleagues about six months to refine the process. The colored water is created from natural plant extracts, and the amount of water that is absorbed into each piece of stem is regulated to control the intensity of the color. As it turns out, this method also works well for Chrysanthemum, Hydrangeas and many other types of flowers. These are brilliant and beautiful!
