E-Ink Watch Is The Thinnest Watch Ever & Is Soon Available

A few years ago, we were introduced to the thought and concept of e-ink. It’s an interactive paper that will enable cell phones and other devices to become paper thin without losing any of their core functions. It would basically mean that we would be able to by an e-ink magazine and then subscribe to any newspaper or magazine that we want to, and it would be presented within this one magazine. Think of it as a piece of paper with pictures on it, although the images are videos and the text is interactive and can be changed just like on a computer. E-paper has come into the spotlight many times over the last couple of years. Much of that has to do with the idea of an e-paper smartphone. Even though that is still a bit down the road, we are now introduced to the thinnest e-ink watch yet.

The people behind this e-ink watch, Central Standard Timing and E-Ink, have collaboratively been able to create the thinnest e-ink watch ever. It is supposed to be launched this year, and by the looks of things, it will be quite popular. The product of their labor is a 0.5mm watch that will run a full month on a 10-minute recharge only. The micro batteries can be charged 10,000 times, which will make it last around 15 years before you would have to switch out the batteries. By then, you would probably want a new, more advanced watch anyway.

This e-ink watch, called CST-01, is another innovative product startup that is looking for funding. Their goal is to raise $200,000 within 44 days. That shouldn’t be a problem considering that over 800 people have already pledged a massive $95,000 within the first few days over at Kickstarter. The finished watch will retail for over $170.00, but if you pledge $129.00 now, you can get one (with a base station to charge it). That’s not bad considering you will be wearing the thinnest e-ink watch in the world when the project is fully funded and successful. This watch is paving the way for all e-ink devices, and we should all get on the bandwagon now!
