Most of you will probably think this is yet another attempt to reinvent the keyboard, and you are completely right. But this time around, there might be more to the concept than just an idea being realized because it is different. This next gen QWERTY keyboard layout actually makes more sense than the original QWERTY keyboard itself. Sure, it would mean we would have to relearn the way we type all over again, but the ergonomic benefits of this new concept might be worth it.
Personally I am not much for “new” innovation when it comes to reinventing what already works. We all know the saying, “if it ain’t broke…” and I agree with that. However, this new QWERTY keyboard layout could possibly be considered more of a refinement of what’s already perfected. I know, that sentence doesn’t make much sense, but the ingenuity behind this new keyboard, called the TREWGrip, is quite intriguing.
The idea was hatched one day by Mark Parker when he was sitting at his desk, and he took the keyboard in his hands by its edges. He thought to himself that maybe interacting with a keyboard like that would make more sense, so he decided to pursue his idea. The idea grew and became TREWGrip LLC which is now looking to fund the final stages of development using crowdfunding.
In order to finalize this new QWERTY keyboard layout, Mark is looking to raise $100,000. With 22 days remaining, the crowdfunding campaign has managed to raise slightly north $11,000. At the current time, the campaign doesn’t seem to hit its mark, but if this next gen keyboard got a media push, I am sure there would be people out there who would be more than happy to start using a different kind of keyboard in their daily endeavors.
One of the most appealing features this QWERTY keyboard layout has to offer is that it is truly versatile. This means you would be able to use it with any of your devices. It doesn’t matter if it is a desktop computer, smartphone or tablet, they are all compatible with the TREWGrip QWERTY keyboard. So what are you waiting for? Head off to their crowdfunding campaign over at Kickstarter and make sure to spread the word about this quite intriguing new way of interacting with our devices.
