The fact that 19% of people have dropped their smartphones in the toilet is proof enough that we like using smartphones in the bathroom. It seems things have come full circle because I’ve written about this topic before. I have never dropped my iPhone in the toilet before, but I did drop it in the bathtub while I was tweeting once. It’s a gut wrenching feeling knowing that the only thing standing between you and a working phone is a bag of rice. Thank goodness I had insurance.
If you’ve ever wondered what people are doing exactly when they’re in the bathroom using their smartphones, I’ve got the answer for you. It seems we are doing much more than sending a few tweets or texts. As a matter of fact, we are even watching TV and getting on work related conference calls while we’re in there. Come to think of it, I’ve been on Skype while in the bathroom before (no, not with video).
This interesting info about the modern bathroom routine and how it relates to using smartphones comes to us in the form of an infographic called Connecting In The Bathroom by victoriaplumb.com. The funny thing is, you’d think in our information-overloaded lives we would savor a little mental peace and quiet in the bathroom, but that’s not the case. We want to stay connected and alleviate the boredom when we’re in there.
Just remember to wash your hands and disinfect your phone before leaving the bathroom. One in six smartphones has fecal matter on it. There can be tens of thousands of germs on one square inch of your phone. Our smartphones make for a pretty nice germ habitat. Keep that in mind while you are sitting on the toilet texting your friends. I suppose using smartphones in the bathroom has a downside after all.
