Social Media & Food: A Match Made In Heaven [Infographic]

Have you learned more about food since you’ve been active on social media sites? I know I have. I usually cure my sugar cravings by writing about cupcakes, I take pictures of food and tweet them, I pin and repin tons of food pictures on my Eat This Beeeeyach board on Pinterest, and I’ve even downloaded a few foodie-related apps. I never did any of that stuff pre-2009. Do you also tweet while you eat? I do, all the time. Doesn’t everyone? According to this infographic, 47% of people between the ages of 18-32 tweet while they eat.

I never really thought about this before today, but it’s true that the combination of social media and food is a delicious and addictive match made in heaven. If you want to see proof of that, just jump on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest and see how many pictures of food, recipes, comments about restaurants and food coupons you can count in five minutes. It’s a lot. See what I mean?

As a matter of fact, there is a growing trend where people find all the information they want about food and recipes more online than offline (like in food magazines, cookbooks and other forms of printed materials). That’s a huge shift from even a few years ago. I guess our obsession with photography and our obsession with food have finally met each other, and it looks like it will be a long, loving and tasty relationship.
