Zombies are coming! Well, not quite yet, hopefully. However, a U.S. tech company has just acquired ethical permission to try and reanimate dead brains. The study, called “The Reanima Project” will try to further unlock the secrets of the brain. The main objective is not to revive people (at least at first) but to further understand how the brain operates and works. The study will be carried out on 20 clinically dead patients whose bodies will be on life support.
The permission was recently granted and was followed by a statement from the project leader that read, “This represents the first trial of its kind and another step to towards the eventual reversal of death in our lifetime.”
Experts and professionals are, however, skeptical towards the endeavor and say there is little evidence to suggest how realistic this venture is. Whether we will have a Zombie apocalypse on our hands in the near future is uncertain. In all fairness, with a clinically dead patient on their hands, little suggest any revival of the brain is possible.
Even if the endeavor is a failure, the researchers hope to gain useful and vital information that will help with future treatment of other degenerative brain conditions. These include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
There is most likely a landslide of opposing opinions regarding this endeavor, however, to reanimate a dead brain is not the same as to reanimate a human to become a living dead.
The outcome of the project might not be successful, but let’s hope that when the chips are in that Brainiac Zombies will not roam the planet. That would be a failure of epic proportions! Some people say Zombies already exist, however, until we have a zombie apocalypse on our hands I will stay skeptical to the whole science fiction idea.
